Juliane Taylor Shore, LPC, LMFT, SEP
Juliane Taylor Shore, LPC, LMFT, SEP (AKA Jules) is a therapist and trainer of therapists in Austin, Texas. She specializes in applying Interpersonal Neurobiology to the healing of trauma and the creation of relational health with clients she sees. She uses her knowledge of the brain and the implicit mind to go decisively to the root of the issue with gentleness and depth.
Jules has been a specialist in trauma recovery and in couples counseling for 12 years, and loves to work experientially because that is how to meet and invite shifts in the implicit mind. She wants to help people find the love, connection, and grace they have always longed for, both in themselves and with each other.
In addition to seeing weekly clients and teaching, Jules offers intensives for couples and for individuals who come from all over to do in-depth work in a brief format.
In this training, you will:
- Learn to assess for a lack of an internal experience of safety
- Increase internal safety by using boundary work with your clients’ parts
- Increase Self-compassion through internal boundary work with yourself and with your clients
- Use boundary work to increase safety and connection in couple therapy
- Use boundary work to support repair in couple therapy
- Increase your efficacy and decrease burnout experiences through personal boundary work
Module 1: Boundaries and Parts Work
In this session, I inform the students about the function of complex systems and the multiplicity of mind theory. I explore different established modalities such as Ego State Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy. I share neurological information about how parts work changes the brain. I will inform the students of ways to assess for boundary difficulties between parts within the multiplicity of mind theory and share clinical tape to increase the student’s ability to assess for these difficulties.
I share neuroscientific discoveries about the importance of self-compassion in regulating activation in the subcortical brain and present three specific interventions to use in session to guide clients in increasing self-compassion.
Module 2: Boundaries and Parts Work
In this session, I focus on teaching and showing examples of clinical interventions that can be used to increase the clients experience in internal safety and regulation. Students will learn how to use image work to increase compassion and connection in their clients towards themselves and their parts. Students will learn how to increase containing boundaries internally in clients’ systems. The students will see overwhelming shame experiences in clients and learn interventions to bypass such experiences so that the client can more effectively align their behaviors with their integrity.
The students will see examples of clients executing a boundary with themselves internally in three different ways. The students will also be shown interventions to increase a present time sense of safety for clients who have a history of physical trauma through somatic boundary work.
Module 3: Boundaries in Couple Work
In this session, I will shift the focus to application of boundary work in couples counseling. I will share research that shows increased trust in personal resilience and in relational strength through safe discordant interactions. The students will see clinical tape of applying psychological and containing boundary work to assist couples in increasing emotional safety, decreasing problematic behavior and increasing and making more earful repair conversations.
Module 4: Boundary work and the Therapist
In this session, the focus will shift to the therapist. I will teach interventions to increase the psychological boundaries between the therapist and the client. I will teach how to use mindfulness and self-compassion to gain clarity for the therapist on separating countertransference from treatment planning. I share supervision tape so that the students can observe others working to contain moves driven by countertransference. I teach a six-step method to guide therapists to use ethical clinical boundaries with clients.
Module 1:
- Describe complexity and multiplicity of mind theories
- Assess for internal boundary difficulties
- Name and describe interventions to increase self-compassion
Module 2:
- List the reasons image is effective in psychological boundary work
- Apply a psychological boundary image intervention to parts work in session
- Apply containing boundary work to parts work in session
Module 3:
- Name how trust in personal and relational resilience is created
- Apply psychological boundary work in couple therapy sessions
- Apply containing boundary work in couple therapy sessions
