Juliane Taylor Shore, LPC, LMFT, SEP (AKA Jules) is a therapist and trainer of therapists in Austin, Texas. She specializes in applying Interpersonal Neurobiology to the healing of trauma and the creation of relational health with clients she sees. She uses her knowledge of the brain and the implicit mind to go decisively to the root of the issue with gentleness and depth.

Jules has been a specialist in trauma recovery and in couples counseling for 12 years, and loves to work experientially because that is how to meet and invite shifts in the implicit mind. She wants to help people find the love, connection, and grace they have always longed for, both in themselves and with each other.

In addition to seeing weekly clients and teaching, Jules offers intensives for couples and for individuals who come from all over to do in-depth work in a brief format.

Clinician’s increased knowledge of neurobiological processes will improve therapeutic outcomes in several key areas and decrease burnout in clinicians. Neurobiology of compassion research shows lower distress in subjects who utilize compassion, this can be applied to clinical outcomes as well as therapist well being. Memory Reconsolidation research has wide clinical applicability and understanding the components of successful memory reconsolidation processes will aid in increasing clinicians ability to support successful reconsolidation for their clients. Increased understanding of the subcortical regions and functions will give clinicians insights into the creative use of language and therapeutic interventions to match needs of the client’s subcortical systems. Understanding the sequential processing of the brain will help clinicians more clearly identify symptoms with more coherence.

This is a workshop to introduce neuroscience and neurobiology to clinicians.   The workshop consists of 5 hours of prerecorded content and seven and a half hours of recorded live teaching calls.  It will include didactic content, clinical examples and discussion with students to answer questions and explore case consultations. The areas focused on are sharing research from the last twenty years in the fields of neuroscience and neurobiology and interpersonal neurobiology with a particular focus on the clinical applications of these advances.

This module gives people an overview of the brain and helps them learn how to read literature in the field. We look at neurosequential processing, understanding the brain through different lenses of complexity theory and how to recognize different brain states in session and use that information to inform interventions.

In this module, we dive into compassion and empathy neuroscience, polyvagal theory and the inevitability of discord to understand an effective therapeutic stance that is warm and able to be guided by the client and a treatment plan simultaneously. I teach about differences in processing in the right and left hemispheres of the brain and look at how that can inform both therapeutic stance and treatment planning. I discuss what tools neuroscience can give use to increase burnout prevention and  serve a client with deep respect for their process without losing your footing as a clinician

Module 3: We are Meaning Making Beings

This module covers how meaning is created throughout the nervous system.  We look at what this means for therapy and how to work with meaning on all the levels of the nervous system. The areas of the brain taught in this module are the brainstem, midbrain, limbic system, basal ganglia, default mode network, insular cortex, mentalization neural network, anterior cingulate cortex, and the prefrontal cortex.

Module 4: Memory Reconsolidation

Memory reconsolidation is the name neuroscientists have given the phenomenon of changes within the implicit memory system in networks that used to be thought of as unchangeable. This module covers the basics. I define memory reconsolidation, go over the key states and experiences that trigger the phenomenon and provide clinical examples of each needed element.

In this module we integrate all we have learned into a set of five clinical skills that help clients orient from the prefrontal cortex to the subcortical brain. I define a neural network and teach five different ways to access a subcortical neural network with conscious awareness.
