Breaking The Cycle Of Trauma: New Learning & Plasticity In Implicit Memory
In this Trauma Wisdom Circle, you will learn that healing trauma is not about thinking differently about what happens but about creating new opportunities for learning where traumatic memories are primarily encoded. We will examine which branches of implicit memory remain cognitive and perceptual and which can be accessed through interoception, or conscious awareness of bodily sensation. Interoception occurs in the insular cortex and can directly interpret and shift the salience of trauma-based memories and ongoing signals of thwarted survival physiology. Students will learn not to directly work with motor procedural, emotional priming, and associative emotional and motor memory in therapy. New implicit learning occurs through interoceptive appraisal. Attendees will have an up-to-date understanding of the science behind practices they can use to help their clients recover from trauma and increase resilience. We will also talk about how this actually looks in clinical practice and what kinds of questions you can ask to access new learning in implicit memory.
