Course Details
BG Mancini AP, FMP, MHSc
BG Mancini is a Neurodevelopmental Specialist, Advanced Certified in Functional Medicine, licensed since 2013 as an Acupuncture Physician and Primary Care Provider. She is the founder of The Brain & Gut Institute and creator of The Family Nervous System® that helps families understand that healing is never just one person in the living organism we call a family and requires connection to self and each other.
With almost 30 years of clinical practice, she has worked with children and adults to unlock their unique potential through biomedical, nervous system, and neurodevelopmental practices.
Throughout her career, BG has personally worked with over 7,000 patients and trained an estimated 600 clinicians. She shares the importance of including Interoception, Proprioception, Neuroception, Sensory Processing, Interhemispheric Movement, and Nutrition in any conversation about addictions, autism, physical and mental health.
As an international speaker and trainer, she focuses on educating therapists, clinicians, educators, and medical providers about the underlying factors driving external reactions labeled as “behaviors.” She advocates for holistic support to achieve homeostasis in the nervous system state and recover balance in the lives of patients and clients.
By combining what we now know through Dr. Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and the latest in research on the Brain-gut Axis, she makes the information “digestible,” for everyone so they can understand and implement tools for their own lives and those with whom they work.
She uniquely brings to light how our physiological state ultimately determines our reaction to our inner and outer world.
Content Description:
This month we offersan integrative lens for understanding trauma by focusing on hownervous system physiology, metabolic capacity, and brain-gut communication shape
our capacity for presence and regulation. The concept of Microtraumas is explored as a way to recognize cumulative
physiological stressors that can influence autonomic state over time. The course
examines the emotional and behavioral pathways that react to environmental input,
including sound, visual load, screens, and other stressors, as part of how the nervous
system continuously assesses safety and threat. These stressors are understood
through sensory physiology, including interoception, neuroception, proprioception,
vestibular input, and the five senses. This understanding supports greater
moment-to-moment agency in how we experience and respond to our internal states.

Live Online Zoom Session 1 – MicroTraumas, Sensory Physiology, and Trauma Resolution – Friday, February 6th -9-10:30am PST/12-1:30pm EST/5-6:30pm GMT
● Orientation to an Integrative, Physiology-Informed Lens (10 minutes) Understanding how nervous system physiology, metabolic capacity, and brain-gut communication shape presence, regulation, and trauma-related responses.
● Sensory Physiology and the Nine Senses (15 minutes) Exploring interoception, neuroception, proprioception, vestibular input, and the five senses, and how sensory input organizes moment-to-moment experience.
● MicroTraumas and Cumulative Physiological Stress (20 minutes) Defining microtraumas as cumulative physiological stressors and examining how ongoing sensory and environmental load influences autonomic state over time.
● Inflammation, Cell Danger Response, and Nervous System State (15 minutes) Understanding how inflammatory signaling and cellular stress responses can undermine regulation and a client’s ability to connect with internal experience.
● Brain-Gut Axis and Emotional and Behavioral States (20 minutes) Reviewing research-informed models of brain-gut communication and how gut signaling influences emotional and behavioral patterns, with clinical examples.
● Clinical Integration and Reflection (10 minutes) Applying concepts to clinical practice through reflection on how physiological load shapes moment-to-moment engagement.
● Applying concepts to clinical practice through reflection on how physiological load shapes moment-to-moment engagement.
Live Online Zoom Session 2 – Restoring Agency Through MicroResets and In-Session Physiological Support – Friday, January 23rd – 9-10:30am PST/12-1:30pm EST/5-6:30 GMT
● Opening Orientation and Concept Review (10 minutes) Brief review of sensory physiology, microtraumas, and autonomic state as they relate to in-session work.
● Recognizing MicroTraumas in the Therapy Room (15 minutes) Identifying how sound, light, visual load, screens, and environmental factors show up as reactivity during sessions, with clinical examples.
● Restoring Agency Through MicroResets (25 minutes) Demonstrating small, in-the-moment physiological resets that increase cues of safety, including eye movements, changes in visual orientation, lighting, and positioning.
● Somatic and Physiological Tools for In-Session Use (15 minutes) Exploring somatic tools and physiological supports that can be used in the therapy room to support regulation and engagement.
● Supporting Regulation Between Sessions (15 minutes) Discussing tools clients can use at home to reduce physiological load and support nervous system capacity.
● Referrals and Scope of Practice (10 minutes) Identifying appropriate referrals when clients self-identify gut issues or specific sensitivities, while maintaining ethical clinical boundaries.

Learning Objectives
Session 1: MicroTraumas, Sensory Physiology, and Trauma Resolution
- Identify the four causes of trauma.
- Describe two or more ways of invoking client empathy for wounded child parts.
- Name three interventions to help clients identify mismatches that are subjective.
Session 2: Restoring Agency Through MicroResets and In-Session Physiological Support
- Identify at least five sources of cumulative physiological stress, described as microtraumas, that influence the autonomic state over time.
- Name the nine sensory pathways, including interoception, neuroception, proprioception, vestibular input, and the five senses, and describe how they contribute to moment-to-moment nervous system assessment of safety and threat.
- Explain at least two mechanisms through which brain-gut communication and inflammatory signaling influence emotional and behavioral states, using research-informed examples.
For beginning mental health professionals, including Psychologists, Social Workers, LPCs, and LMFTs.
