Course Details
She/ella) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Sexuality Educator, and Certified Trauma Therapist. She is the founder of Healing Exchange LLC, a multi-state, education and mental health private practice committed to providing sex-positive, trauma-informed, pleasure-centered, and inclusive education, therapy, and professional development. She also co-founded Afrosexology, a sex education business centering the pleasure, empowerment, and liberation of Black people.
Rafaella is an international educator, consultant, and author who has been featured in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, HuffPost, Teen Vogue, Vibe Magazine, and Broadly. Sexual trauma impacts far more than just the moment of harm, it reshapes the body, brain, relationships, and sense of self. In this workshop, we begin by building a foundational understanding of trauma and sexual trauma: how it lives in the nervous system, how it affects attachment and identity, and how it often shows up in silence, shame, and disconnection. From there, we move into application, exploring a trauma-informed, attachment-aware, and sexuality-affirming approach to healing. Live Online Zoom Session 1 – The Science of Sexual Trauma & Healing – Friday, June 6th –7:30-9am PDT/10:30am-12pm EDT/3:30-5pm
Session Overview:Overview: Sexual trauma impacts far more than just the moment of harm, it reshapes the body, brain, relationships, and sense of self. - Discuss the psychophysiology of sexual trauma response. (20 minutes)
- Identify common trauma responses and sexual health implications. (15 minutes)
- Describe the three-phase model of trauma treatment and apply it to clinical work with survivors of sexual trauma. (15 minutes)
- Explore how to integrate trauma-informed and sexuality-affirming practices. (15 minutes)
- Review case study and discussion questions (15 minutes)
Live Online Zoom Session 2 – The Science of Sexual Pleasure for Survivors – Friday, June 20th – 9-10:30am PDT/12-1:30pm EDT/5-6:30 BST
Session Overview:
Sexual pleasure after trauma can feel distant, confusing, or unsafe, but it is not out of reach. In this experiential workshop, we explore how pleasure can become part of the healing process for survivors through the lens of neurobiology, somatics, and attachment-informed care.
This training is designed for clinicians, educators, and healing professionals ready to go beyond understanding trauma and begin applying body-based tools to support pleasure reclamation. - Differentiate between safety, tolerance, and consent in somatic pleasure work. (15 minutes)
- Demonstrate at least two somatic practices that support body awareness and pleasure reclamation. (30 minutes)
- Identify common barriers to pleasure for survivors and how to navigate them with clinical sensitivity. (15 minutes)
- Develop strategies for integrating somatic pleasure practices into different phases of trauma treatment. (10 minutes)

Session 1: The Science of Sexual Trauma & Healing
- Identify three (3) psychophysiological responses of sexual trauma.
- Name two (2) reasons a sexual trauma survivor may pursue therapy.
- Explain the purpose of the three-phase model of trauma treatment.
- List two (2) clinical approaches for working with this population.
Session 2:
- Differentiate between safety, tolerance, and consent as they relate to somatic pleasure work with trauma survivors.
- Identify three (3) common barriers to experiencing pleasure in survivors of sexual trauma.
- Facilitate at least two (2) somatic practices that support survivors in reconnecting with bodily awareness, agency, and pleasure.
- Identify at least two (1) components of a trauma-informed, attachment-aware lens to integrate body-based pleasure work.
For intermediate mental health professionals including Psychologists, Social Workers, LPCs, and LMFTs.
Continuing Education
This program offers limited Live CEs/Contact Hours.
Continuing education credit/Contact hours are awarded on a per-session basis, with full attendance required for the entire 90-minute duration. There is no additional charge for the CEs. Application forms and other required CE materials will be available to participants by the Academy of Therapy Wisdom.
NOTE: To receive continuing education credit, applicants must complete all CE materials, comply with attendance regulations, and submit an evaluation form for the session attended. It is the responsibility of the attendee to determine if CE credit/contact hours offered by Academy of Therapy Wisdom meet the regulations of their state licensing/certification board.
Psychology: This course does NOT provide CEs for Psychologists.
