Content Description:
Our world is becoming more and more divided at an alarming speed. We are all experiencing global trauma. As therapists, we must learn to manage our own increasing anxiety, and at the same time provide a safe enough space for our clients to heal. We will explore how working with Polyvagal theory and the Felt Sense gives us a roadmap for healing our ruptured world. The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model outlines a step-by-step process for helping our clients find an embodied state of integration.
Course Agenda
Healing Deep Divides with the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model
with Jan Winhall
Live Online Zoom Session 1 – Introduction to the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model – Wednesday, March 12th – 9-10:30am PDT/12pm-1:30pm EDT/4-5:30pm GMT
Session Overview:This session introduces the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model, (FSPM), a paradigm-shifting approach for treating trauma and addiction. Developed over forty-five years of clinical practice, the model challenges traditional top-down approaches that leave out the wisdom of the body. In our increasingly dysregulated world it is essential that we learn how to connect with our bodies’ natural ability to heal divides.
Cutting-edge neurobiological research is having a powerful impact on the field of trauma treatment, helping clinicians to appreciate the vital role of embodied processes for healing. The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model (FSPM) offers a powerful somatic therapeutic framework for helping individuals, families, and cultures to address escalating polarities. It is based on Porges Polyvagal theory, and Gendlin’s Focusing/Felt Sense, an embodied healing practice. The model teaches two skills: recognizing and rewiring nervous system states and tapping into body wisdom through the practice of felt sensing. Applications for both individual and collective healing will be discussed.
Session content
- An introduction to the early formulation of the model with feminist and trauma-informed theory. Focusing on the paradigm shift from a pathologizing to a strength-based polyvagal lens. (5 minutes)
